It's not just a Madden NFL 23 issue. The NCAA, which claims nonprofit status for its efforts to support student athletes, claimed $871.6 million during 2012 and is now making record-breaking expenditures on lobbying to block these same athletes from getting the funds. Small foot races, which are awash with huge amounts of money, take extravagant trips , and pay organizers a hefty sum they claim that they are nonprofit.
It's the time to break the facade.
Tax-exempt status is supposed to be given to businesses that have a purpose greater than making a profit, in particular those that seek to assist the public in their pursuit. Although we can't ignore the last week's issues, Madden NFL 23 has proven that it is solely focused on turning a profit and benefiting itself and its teams. As USA Today pointed out:
"If there's a need in granting tax exemptions to business clubs, it could be their public good of facilitating commerce for everyone within broad segments of a type of business or business generally," explained (Philip) Hackney who is who is an LSU lawyer who was an IRS attorney in the area of tax exempt-organization issues. "Commerce is vital to our nation, and we must encourage those engaged in it in a public manner. These (sports) organizations are, to my mind, aren't public-minded at all in their business interests. They are focused on making money from their franchises."
There's a misguided expectation for people to perceive sports organisations as entities that transcend the world of business in the sense that they're focussed on the bigger picture. But , in reality, this is simply a figment of the imagination. This version of Madden NFL 23 is not about the common good and maintaining a high moral standard. The NCAA isn't full of experts who want to shield athletes from consumerism. The marathon you run in your area is probably not donating as much money to charities as you think it is.
